Next Conclave for Election of New Pope

The process for the election of a new Pope will begin on1 March. We do not yet know the exact date of the conclave, but obviously there will be no need to wait the normal eight days of mourning (novendali) after the death of the Pope. Thus, in two weeks, during the month of March, in time for Easter, we will have a new Pope ... Benedict XVI will have no role in next March's conclave, nor in the running of the Church during the time between popes, the time of Sede Vacante. The Apostolic Constitution gives no role in this transition to a pope who resigns."

According to Canon 349 “The cardinals of the Holy Roman Church constitute a special college which provides for the election of the Roman Pontiff according to the norm of special law”. The Special Law is constituted by the Apostolic Constitution UNIVERSI DOMINICI GREGIS issued by Pope John Paul II on 22nd February, 1996. According to this, read with Western Canon Law, Pope is the Bishop of Rome and belongs to the Sui Iuris (particular church) Roman Church or the Western Church of the Catholic Church. The Cardinal Bishops of other twenty one particular churches though they have the right to vote, practically cannot aspire to become the Pope. It is high time such regulations and Canon Law are amended and the Catholic Church became more catholic. The 2nd Pope of the 3rd millennium should be from any one of the Eastern Churches either from Asia or Africa. But unfortunately at present there is no provision in the Code of Canons of Oriental Churches (Codex Cannonici Ecclesiarum Orientalium) regarding the election of Pope. Eastern Churches, including the Syro-Malabar Church, are for all practical purposes the colonies of the Roman Church (Western Church Is this true ?
